Crushed Dreams (2013)
Crushed Dreams is an ambient work composed and performed by Hannah Sorenson, Benjamin Christiansen and myself, forming the trio Tears of Orphans for this one off performance. The piece was composed as an assignment for MaxMSP 2 to be performed at the Sound Spectrum Festival in October, and required the instruments to be created within the MaxMSP program. |

Ph(r)ase (2013)
Ph(r)ase plays on the relationship between rhythmic ideas in competing tempos and time signatures. It is a piece that can be performed by two or more percussionists, and the score is generated through the random selection of a phrase from a list, which is then repeated for a randomised period of time. Not only is the phrase determined at random, the instrument, dynamic, and types of sticks to be used are also chosen at random. This live recording of Ph(r)ase was performed on the 2nd of September 2013 as a part of WAAPA's Art of Noises Concert by Matt Cole, Joshua Blackwell and Josten Myburgh. |

Nine Miniatures (2013)
Nine Miniatures is a collection of nine piano pieces that are each under a minute long and contain only one musical idea. I was inspired by Gyorgy Ligeti’s Musica Ricercata (1951-53) for my own set of nine piano miniatures. Ligeti utilises the pianos vast range in limited tone sets, a concept that I was drawn to and have attempted to replicate throughout my own work. These tone sets are coupled with different musical forms and settings, which contrast his ideas within each movement. |
